This is a great item in which you can create great patter and stories to go along with the presentation. One such story is that it was used by "Dracula, Vlad the Impaler" to acquire information from his enemies. This archaic, menacing device is wheeled to the center of the stage, it can be turned around completely and examined by an audience member if you like.

The sharp spikes are shown and you can even drop a tomato on them to show the effect they would ultimately have on a person's wrists. Next two twenty foot pieces of rough rope are shown. The rope is strong 1/2 inch and looks like the kind of rope used in torture chambers of old. The rope is placed into the impailor and brought up to form a sort of pair of handcuffs. Next the ends of rope are given to the spectators to hold. You then place your wrists through the holes that form the handcuffs. This places you into a very compromising  position. You explain the more the spectators now pull on the rope, the more pressure it puts on your wrists to be pulled down onto the sharp spikes.

Next you tell the spectators that on your command they are to pull with all their might on the ends of the rope and you must escape or be impaled!  This looks impossible, but when the command is given the spectators pull and your hands are free instantly and the spectators are left holding the two strong ropes as they are now in front of the impailor, and everything can be examined, a totally baffling escape!
